What We Mean by Comprehensive Car Maintenance in Airdrie:
A Timeline List View

Determining the needed car maintenance comes down to one essential factor: Time.
Every vehicle is different, and our comprehensive maintenance service aims to provide a tailor-made suite of tasks to your vehicle, depending on what it needs.
Maintaining preventive vehicle maintenance and doing a routine engine diagnostic check is essential and keeps you in the realm of affordable auto repair (and not heartbreaking, jaw-dropping expensive auto repair).
Keepings things affordable and simple through comprehensive maintenance generally looks something like the following (not a complete list but a general overview of comprehensive maintenance that should be done at various kilometer intervals):
Every 4,500 to 8,000 Kilometers
· Change the engine oil and filter to maintain engine lubrication and cooling,
· Check and top up all fluid levels, including brake, coolant, transmission, power steering, and windshield washer fluids.
· Inspect the tires and adjust their pressure as needed to ensure proper wear, sufficient traction, and maximum fuel economy.
· Verify that all lights, including headlights, taillights, brake lights, blinkers, and hazards are functioning properly.
Every 9,500 to 24,000 Kilometers
· Rotate the tires, check them for tread wear, and ensure they are properly balanced and aligned.
· Replace the engine and cabin air filters to ensure engine efficiency and clean interior air.
· Replace the windshield wiper blades and top off the windshield washer fluid.
· Clean the batter terminals and test battery capacity at these kilometer intervals and before and after winter.
· Inspect the brake pad thickness, rotor condition, and brake lines. Replace as needed.
Every 50,000 to 150,000 Kilometers
· Inspect and replace any and all belts and hoses that are showing any sign of fraying, brittleness, or general wear. Pay special attention to serpentine belts and radiator hoses.
· Flush all fluids, including coolant, transmission fluid, and brake fluid.
· Inspect and replace shocks, struts, tie rods, and have the wheel alignment checked.
· Check and replace the timing belt and chain according to exact manufacturer specifications.
Proper Automotive Fluid Care in Southern Alberta
The fluids are the lifeblood of a vehicle, and while some require more frequent maintenance than others, all deserve attention and will need to be flushed and replaced at some point.
· Engine Oil: Synthetic oil is fast becoming the preferred option for vehicle owners, due to its superior engine protection, better extreme-temperature performance, and longer change intervals. Particularly in older vehicles, synthetic oil is strongly recommended, and it should be changed every 4,500 to 8,000 kilometers, depending on the vehicle.
· Transmission Fluid: Improvements in technology have extended the intervals at which one needs to change the transmission fluid. Currently, this fluid change is recommended at between 160,000 and 240,000 kilometers. The same is true of rear differential oil.
· Brake Fluid: Brake fluid operates under extreme conditions, and it should be changed every 24 months.
· Power Steering Fluid: Quoting one authoritative resource, “Power steering fluid is generally not listed for replacement by the manufacturer unless the fluid becomes contaminated, a power steering repair has been performed, or a mechanic suspects that a power steering issue could be corrected with a fluid change.”
· Engine Coolant: The engine coolant should be changed every 24 to 36 months, depending on operating conditions. The coolant is essential to the ongoing reliability of the vehicle.
Performing scheduled fluid service on time (and not putting it off) will ensure that the fluids function as they should, and that the vehicle will experience an extended lifespan, ultimately saving the owner money and time in the long run.
Finally, every vehicle is different, so if you have any questions about what your car needs in order to keep it running in tip-top condition, just contact us and we’ll help you determine what, if any, service it needs.
