What is a Boat Shrink Wrap and Why is it Important?
Simply put, boat shrink wrapping is the leading technology in weather-proofing a boat for winter storage. It is a protective process that covers a vessel in a durable, polyethylene plastic film. The film is installed over a support framework, and then the film is heated so that it shrinks tightly over the framework, fully encasing the boat in a tightly-sealed protective plastic coating.

This provides a tight fit, which prevents wind pockets and sagging. It also prevents snow and water from “pooling” anywhere in or on the boat, as any precipitation that falls onto the boat just slides off the shrink wrap and falls to the ground.

8mm marine shrink wrap is simply a much thicker version of the industry standard. The thicker, tougher material protects the boat’s exterior features from snow, wind, rain, sleet, ice, hail, and other severe winter elements. And because the boat’s exterior features are not damaged from the elements during winter, the interior features also remain safeguarded during the off-season.
Dandy’s installation process for the shrink wrap material is also significantly superior to other approaches. First, Dandy’s best Airdrie marine mechanics clean the boat’s hull and exterior to ensure the shrink wrap will not trap dirt, mud, algae, and unwanted materials inside the boat all winter.
Then, Dandy’s technicians install support systems on the boat’s exterior. Think of these supports as a wireframe that will hold up and support the shrink wrap. This frame is designed so that, when the shrink wrap forms a protective shell on top of the boat, snow and rain hitting the shrink wrap will fall to the ground, rather than collecting on the wrap and potentially damaging the boat’s exterior.
Once the frame and shrink wrap has been installed, Dandy’s marine techs trim excess wrap, and then they heat the installed wrap so that it shrinks. Breather vents are utilized to promote air flow, but such vents do not allow for snow, rain, or pests to enter.
Dandy’s shrink wrap service is customizable. For example, Dandy can install the wrap with boat towers still installed, or Dandy’s techs can remove the towers first, and then install the wrap.
